The Race of Super Computers
Cray Inc. has built the fastest super computer in the world by beating the previous record holder IBM. Cray's 'Jaguar' supercomputer system, located at Oak Ridge National Laboratories, USA, uses more than 2,24,000 AMD 6-core Opteron Processors. Jaguar clocked a speed of a mind boggling 1.75 petaflops, in the recent tests. Congratulations Cray!
By the way, India has 4 entries in the top 500 super computers list. There are about 13 supercomputer systems in India having a speed of more than 2 teraflops. The fastest of them (ranked 26th in the top 500) is a HP-make machine, located at Pune, and has a peak rating of 132.8 teraflops. China has 21 supercomputers, within the top 500 ranks. Its fastest system, 'Tianhe-1' is ranked 5th, with a maximum speed of 563.1 teraflops.
